City Beat Signatures

NSI developed a modeling and simulation (M&S) testbed to understand, detect and identify asymmetric threats that can lurk within complex urban environments. Urban environments are a key strategic battleground today because of urbanization and a variety of other factors: they can provide safe haven and harbor for nefarious activity; they can easily conceal terrorists and other nefarious actors; they can provide easy access to WMD resources, weapons, training; and they can provide a large pool of potential recruits. The testbed is comprised of several major components: a threat generator to create realistic threat activity patterns (signatures) using gaming technology; a background noise/clutter generator to create realistic benign activity; and an analyst module to uncover the hidden threat activity patterns (signatures) from background noise using advanced sensors and analyst tools.
