Ms. Pamela Toman: Research Scientist
Ms. Pamela Toman is a Research Scientist with NSI. In this role, she provides support in the areas of social science model development and analysis, linguistics, and the Arabic language. Prior to joining NSI, she conducted applied research in the area of computational linguistics, leveraging computational tools to accomplish linguistic tasks using both spoken and written corpora. While working for the Department of Defense, she worked with spoken corpora to establish performance measures and develop recommendations to improve automatic language identification. At university, she built and evaluated a computer system to automatically extract relations between entities given natural Arabic text. Ms. Toman has additional research experience in applied linguistics and political science, as well as experience in teaching language, culture, and their intersection in Modern Standard Arabic and in German. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University.
